Directed by Larry Sabato at the UVA Center for Governmental Studies, Youth Leadership Initiative 2000 (YLI) is a national citizenship education program designed to involve middle and high school students in the fundamentals of the American political process and instill in them a greater sense if civic responsibility as adults. Commemorating 400 years of settlement in America, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation was designated by the Virginia General Assembly in 1996 to organize Virginia's observance and celebration of the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in Virginia - Watch for First Lady of Virginia Roxane Gilmore on the new VCTA public service announcement which heralds the upcoming celebration and the truly remarkable and unprecedented archeological finds being made at Jamestown right now.
