Funding Initiatives

Thanks to the support of the Virginia and Federal Government, several broadband programs have been created to assist Virginians, from all corners of the Commonwealth, with broadband expansion, access, and adoptability.

State Grant Programs

Since 2017, the Virginia General Assembly has allocated government funding (more than $875 million total) to reach unserved Virginians by using the Public-Private Partnership model to bring Last-Mile broadband access. The latest Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) awards and guidelines can be viewed here.

Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program

States and territories across the nation have Signed On to the Internet For All Initiative and committed to connecting their communities to reliable high-speed Internet for less through the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD)  and State Digital Equity Planning Grant Programs. These programs will provide more than $48 billion for infrastructure deployment, skills training and access to technologies essential for Americans to connect with their communities, their democracy, and one another.
